Erin O'Kane

Doctoral Candidate

Erin is a third-year Ph.D. candidate at Duke University in Biomedical Engineering. She graduated from the University of Rochester in 2023 with a B.S. in Optical Engineering and a B.A. in Chemistry. At the Institute of Optics, she concentrated on optical design, laying a strong foundation for her current research in biomedical imaging. She conducts her research in the BIOS Lab under the mentorship of Dr. Adam Wax, specializing in spectroscopic optical coherence tomography (SOCT). Her work focuses on characterizing nuclear signatures in normal and dysplastic tissues to enable real-time, objective diagnosis of epithelial carcinomas.

Beyond the lab, Erin spends her time dancing, playing the cello, and exploring new recipes.
